Libya rebels encircle city

For the first time in months, witnesses in Tripoli reported heavy fighting across the capital late Saturday night, even as rebel forces claimed to have encircled the city by taking major towns to its east, west and south.

Quindici combattenti ribelli libici sono stati uccisi nelle ultime ore negli scontri con l'esercito governativo nell'area di Brega, sul fronte orientale, come ha annunciato un portavoce militare della guerriglia. Dopo mesi di stallo verso est, i ribelli avevano lanciato a fine luglio un'offensiva contro Brega, avamposto delle forze pro Gheddafi. Gli oppositori sono arrivati a controllare la quasi totalità della zona residenziale della città.

After a stalemate last a few months, the rebels attacked Berga, Gheddafi's force outpost.
The rebels now control almost all the residential zone of the city.
